Understanding Odds Formats
Sports betting odds come in three main formats: American (moneyline), Decimal, and Fractional. Each tells you the same thing in a different way — how much you can win relative to your stake.
American Odds
American odds use a plus or minus sign. Minus odds (e.g., -150) tell you how much you need to bet to win $100. Plus odds (e.g., +200) tell you how much you win on a $100 bet.
Decimal Odds
Decimal odds are the simplest. Multiply your stake by the decimal to get your total return. For example, $10 at 2.50 odds returns $25 ($15 profit + $10 stake).
Finding Value
The key to profitable betting is finding value — situations where the bookmaker's odds underestimate the true probability of an outcome. This requires research, statistical analysis, and discipline.
